Memory Foam Mattress Blunders

If you're considering the purchase of a memory foam mattress, Tempurpedic mattress reviews can be a helpful way to compare them with other mattresses. I've written countless articles that have been distributed all over the Internet about what to look for when you buy your mattress so you don't get scammed by anyone. I've also written a buyers guide book that's sold on Amazon with the idea that maybe I can keep you from buying a mattress that you will regret buying.

In order to judge memory foam mattresses there are a few things you should know before you buy. Not checking out any one of these things can mean you'll end up with a mattress that's probably not going to make you comfortable and may be a very poor investment in your sleep and your overall health. A good visco elastic foam mattress will have these characteristics and you will have a very good chance of loving it right from the start.

Tip #1 - Make sure the foam is poured in America.

This is the most important because manufacturers in America are working under some strict regulations regarding the chemicals they are allowed to use in their products. Memory foam mattresses that are poured in other countries can contain all kinds of harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, CFC's, PBDE's and a multitude of others. Most foreign manufacturers will use anything in their foam that lessens the cost of producing it regardless of what it might do to your health. I've always maintained that sleeping on a mattress that's made using foreign poured foam can be like sleeping on a toxic waste dump. These chemicals are what have gotten memory foam a reputation for stinking, sleeping hot and being way too firm for a comfortable night's sleep.

CAUTION: Be aware also that many retailers will use the term "Made in America" when they are actually using foreign foam and then making some part of the mattress in America.

Ask specifically if their mattress is made using foam that is poured in America.

Tip #2 - Check for the density of the foam.

5 lb density foam is considered to be the ideal density for the support of the human body and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise. Using less dense foam will end up giving you less support for your body and will wear out much sooner than the 5 lb density memory foam.

CAUTION: Many foreign foam manufacturers use clay additives to give their foam a false density rating so you can't even count on the density rating on foreign poured foams.

The clay additives will make a NASA foam mattress very hard and you won't like sleeping on it. This is because adding other ingredients into the mixture ends up totally destroying all the positive benefits of the memory foam. I consider the density 5 lb. density memory foam to be a 15 to 20 year foam.
