What is the Best Mattress - Foam Or Innerspring Mattress?

Innerspring mattress is the most popular mattress decades ago. This is why most of the front runners in the innerspring industry have been established some 70 years ago. Serta, Simmons and Sealy are some examples.

But at the turn of the century, people have become a lot more discriminating in their choices. This is true especially when foam mattresses were developed. Some of the latest trends in the foam industry are latex and memory foam mattresses.

Memory foams are introduced originally by the NASA team. They were the perpetrators of the visco elastic technology, which is the technology that allows the foam to conform to the contours of the body by adjusting to your body's heat. When astronauts launch in space, the gravitational force pushes them back in their seats which will then cause pressure sores and body pains. This technology was then translated in mattresses.

Latex foams are those foams that mainly use rubber tree sap. This is also the same material used in making rubber tires and gloves. However, the manufacturing procedures are different. They are vulcanized in two different ways: Dunlop and Talalay manufacturing. These mattresses also adhere to the contours of your body but it does that through its open cell structure.

So which one is the best? When it comes to mattresses, you have to pick the one that feels really comfortable for you. Not all people find comfort in innerspring mattress but not all people also like the comfort of foam mattresses. So that means you have to carefully deliberate on your comfort preferences for you to find the best one.

But if we are talking about the durability of the mattress, foam beds will last longer. That is because they do not sag easily due to their structure. An innerspring bed's coil springs might sag in just 5 years. In addition to that, they are not mattresses fit for heavier people.

The caveat of most memory foams and latex foams is the price. Because they are made from the latest bedding technology, they are much more expensive. They can cost as high as $5,000. I personally don't suggest buying a memory foam or a latex foam that is as expensive as that. Although these mattresses are more durable and more resilient, this does not ensure that they will really last longer. There are cheaper foam beds that may have lower quality. But when it comes to foams, you should look for those with semi-firm foam density because these are generally cheaper.
